FNN’s 6th annual motorcycle charity fundraiser nets big
A week of rainy weather cleared just in time for Federal News Network’s 6th annual Motorcycle Ride for Charity. The event, which took place Friday, raised more than $17,000, bringing the total raised so far to more than $100,000. Organized by former Federal Drive anchor Tom Temin, the ride proceeds benefit the Federal Employee Education and Assistance Fund, Friends of Patients at the NIH and the U.S. War Dogs Association.

Riders gathered at District Harley-Davidson in Gaithersburg, Maryland, where general manager Matt Conley provided hot coffee and doughnuts. After final instructions from Temin, the group departed for a 55 mile ride through winding roads in upper Montgomery Country. The ride tooled through Potomac Village to MacArthur Boulevard, Cabin John Parkway and the end point at the leafy McLean Community Center in McLean, Virginia. StrongBridge LLC CEO Jeff Powell, one of the ride’s corporate sponsors, aboard a spiffy three-wheel SlingShot, rode the tailgunner position in the parade.
At the finish, riders and charity recipients munched on subs as Temin made award ceremonies, presenting checks of $5,500 to each of the charities. Federal News Network staff members Jason Miller, Vanessa Roberts and Brian Oliger organized the logistics for the ceremonies. Also on hand was Tom Suder, CEO of ATARC, who sponsored lunch.
“This year has brought particularly unusual challenges to the federal community, so the continuing support of our individual riders and corporate sponsors is more important than ever,” Temin said.
This year’s sponsors, led by Carahsoft as the presenting sponsor, were WAEPA, Maximus, ManTech International, StrongBridge LLC and Unison Software. Rider and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Chief Information Officer Henry Holcombe also contributed above and beyond the individual rider level.
Planning is underway for the 2026 edition of the charity ride, with consultant former General Services Administration acquisition executive Sonny Hashmi joining the effort.
“Let’s double the contributions next year,” Hashmi said.
