Danish Prime Minister: VP Vance is Right, Mass Migration Threatens Europe’s Way of Life

Published

on

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is one of the few socialist leaders in Europe who hasn’t completely betrayed their nation’s blue-collar, working-class base. She recently stunned establishment politicians by agreeing with Vice President J.D. Vance’s assertion that mass migration is destroying the social fabric of Europe.

In an interview with Politico Europe published on Thursday, Frederiksen—who, unlike many of her social democrat counterparts in Europe’s political establishment, has curbed the rise of Denmark’s populist right by firmly opposing mass migration—conceded that Vice President J.D. Vance “had a point” in his Munich Security Conference speech when he warned of the threats posed by migration.

“I consider this mass migration into Europe as a threat to the daily life in Europe,” the prime minister said, echoing the position Vance voiced weeks earlier at the Munich Security Conference.

As Politico Europe points out, Frederiksen “stands out in a sea of conservatives in Europe as one of the only socialist leaders remaining in power across the bloc, in large part due to her severe policies on migration.”

At the conference, one of Europe’s most important, Vance stunned and outraged Europe’s globalist political elite by declaring, “Of all the pressing challenges faced by the nations represented here, none is more urgent than mass migration,” emphasizing that it poses a far greater threat than Russia.

“No voter on this continent went to the ballot box to open the floodgates to millions of unvetted immigrants. But you know what they did vote for? In England, they voted for Brexit. And agree or disagree, they voted for it. And more and more, all over Europe, they’re voting for political leaders who promise to put an end to out-of-control migration,” Vance said.

“The threat that I worry the most about vis-à-vis Europe is not Russia, it’s not China. It’s not any other external actor,” Vance exclaimed. “What I worry about is the threat from within the retreat of Europe from some of its most fundamental values, values shared with the United States of America.”

Continuing on, Frederiksen highlighted the importance of controlling migration when it comes to maintaining the robust Scandinavian-style welfare state, saying: “I totally believe in equal opportunities and a Scandinavian welfare model with a tax-paid education, social benefits, and health care. But for me, that’s only one traditional pillar of being a social democrat.”

“Being in control of migration is the second pillar,” she added.

Although Frederiksen aligns with Vance’s view that borders ought to be more strictly controlled, her view on Russia differs.

“If I ask people about security and their security concerns, many of them will reply that Russia and defending Europe is top of mind right now. But security is also about what is going on in your local community,” Frederiksen said.

Unlike many self-proclaimed ‘conservative’ or ‘center-right’ politicians, Frederiksen’s policies are supported by tangible results.

Politico Europe writes:

“To limit migration, Denmark has deployed a potent cocktail of policies dubbed “zero” refugees including negative advertising in source countries urging migrants not to make the trip; confiscating valuables from migrants to offset the cost of their stay; threatening rapid deportations for settled Syrians during the reign of Bashar Assad; and the controversial “No Ghetto” laws aimed at reducing the proportion of foreign-born people in Danish neighborhoods. The country also passed a law in 2021 that could allow refugees to be moved to centers in partner countries outside the EU, such as Rwanda, a proposal that the European Commission later criticized.”

In December 2024, Prime Minister Frederiksen, adhering to her zero-refugee policy, stated that Syrian refugees in Denmark should return to their homeland now that conditions have improved following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

“You are a refugee temporarily when conditions make it impossible to live where you come from,” Frederiksen said.

“When those conditions change, I firmly believe and encourage people to return to their country to help rebuild it. I would do the same myself,” highlighting that many Syrians presently staying in Denmark do not hold permanent residence permits.

“Therefore, of course, we expect them to go back now,” she said.
