Woman in Canoe Pays with Her Life After Passing Over Hidden Alligator

Published

A Florida woman died Tuesday afternoon when an alligator flipped her canoe and attacked her in Lake Kissimmee, which is south of Orlando and East of Tampa.

Cynthia Diekema, 61,  sat at the bow of the 14-foot canoe as she and her husband paddled the shallow depths near the mouth of Tiger Creek, according to The Lakeland Ledger.

The couple passed over an alligator in 2.5 feet of water, and the reptile began thrashing and flipped the couple’s boat over.

“She ended up on top of the alligator in the water and was bitten,” Maj. Evan Laskowski of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said at a news conference Wednesday.

“Her husband attempted to intervene, but was unsuccessful,” Laskowski said.

A sheriff’s office helicopter crew later spotted Diekema’s body floating in the water.

Bradley Johnson, the public information officer for FWC Division of Law Enforcement, said such alligator attacks are rare.

“This is not believed to be a predatory incident but simply a defensive incident, where they came upon the alligator beneath the water’s edge, and when the canoe struck it, it caused a reaction,” Laskowski said at the news conference.

That night, trappers caught two alligators that matched the description: one was 11 feet, 4 inches long and the other about 10 to 11 feet long, according to WKMG-TV in Orlando.

Both alligators were killed.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is still investigating the attack.

“While alligator attacks resulting in fatalities are extremely rare, this tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the powerful wildlife that share our natural spaces,” Col. Roger Young, executive director of the commission, said.

In March, a woman was attacked by an alligator while kayaking along Tiger Creek, according to Florida Today.

The woman went into shock and needed a tourniquet after an alligator shredded her elbow.

She was later flown to a hospital for treatment while trappers set out to search for the alligator, WKMG-TV reported on March 3.

Lake Kissimmee had the second highest population of alligators in Florida, numbering more than 16,000, while Lake Okeechobee had the most, according to The Lakeland Ledger, citing 2024 FWC census data.

Alligators are a problem in the state — so much so that it has an alligator elimination program, according to Florida Today.

The Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program uses contracted trappers to remove alligators that pose a threat to people, pets or property, according to a statement from SNAP.

National Security Advisers From Europe and Ukraine Hold Meeting Today in England, Hosted by UK Foreign Secretary Lammy and US Vice President Vance

UK’s Lammy and US Vice-President Vance will host the European and Ukrainian ‘allies’ for a meeting today.

As we have reported previously, Vice President JD Vance’s holiday in the UK is actually filled with relevant work pushing President Donald J. Trump’s foreign policy.

Today, a meeting of National Security Advisers from the US, UK, as well as European ‘allies’ and Ukrainians, is being held, hosted by Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Vance.

The meeting is taking place at Chevening, Secretary Lammy’s ‘official country residence’ in Kent where Vance is staying during his days in the UK.

Daily Mail reported:

“The aim of the meeting is to bring together advisors from the US, Europe and Ukraine – it is understood to have been requested by the US.

A Downing Street spokesperson said that Keir Starmer and Volodymyr Zelensky agreed the meeting would be a ‘vital forum to discuss progress towards securing a just and lasting peace’.

‘Both leaders welcomed President Trump’s desire to bring this barbaric war to an end and agreed that we must keep up the pressure on Putin to end his illegal war,’ the spokesperson added.”

This meeting follows the news that Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold a peace summit in Alaska on August 15.

“’The highly anticipated meeting between myself, as President of the United States of America, and President Vladimir Putin, of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the Great State of Alaska,’ Trump wrote. ‘Further details to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter!’”

This stay by Vance highlights that Foreign Secretary Lammy has somehow managed to become closer to the Trump administration, having previously called the president a ‘Neo-Nazi sympathizing sociopath’.

Report: President Trump Fired IRS Commissioner After He Defied Orders to Cough Up Additional Taxpayer Information on Suspected Illegal Aliens

President Trump sent shockwaves throughout Washington, DC after making Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent the acting IRS Commissioner. Now, we may know why.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Trump removed Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Billy Long from the position and installed Bessent. Long had been in the job for less than two months.

As a consolation, Long was awarded the U.S. Ambassadorship to Iceland, not exactly a plum position.

But it was either Iceland or the unemployment line. The Washington Post reported Saturday that Long was booted from his position after he refused to hand over certain taxpayer data on suspected illegal aliens.

The paper says the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sent the IRS a list on Thursday containing 40,000 names of people DHS officials believed were in the country illegally. They reportedly asked the IRS to use ‘confidential’ taxpayer data to verify their addresses.

The Treasury Department, which oversees the IRS, previously agreed with the DHS to facilitate such data sharing. Long and other IRS officials, though, claimed they were able to verify fewer than 3% of the names.

Then, White House officials requested additional information on the taxpayers the IRS identified, specifically the earned income tax credit. Long refused to cough up this information, telling officials that his agency would not provide such taxpayer information outside of the IRS’s agreement with DHS.

He previously warned officials that such a request would not be acceptable to him.

Several hours later, Trump removed Long as IRS Commissioner.

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson issued the following statement in response to the Washington Post report.

The Trump administration is working in lockstep to eliminate information silos and to prevent illegal aliens from taking advantage of benefits meant for hardworking American taxpayers.

Any absurd assertion other than everyone being aligned on the mission is simply false and totally fake news

Education Expert Urges Trump, McMahon to Use Dept. of Ed Powers to Save American Kids, Not Shut it All Down

Conservative education reformer John Droz is warning that America’s K-12 system is collapsing by design. He says the U.S. Department of Education could be used to reverse the decline if President Donald Trump and Linda McMahon are willing to lead.

While many Republicans want the Department abolished, and celebrated last month’s 6-3 decision by the Supreme Court to shutter the Department, Droz says scrapping it will only remove one of the few tools available to fight the Left’s monopoly control and stranglehold over government education. Instead, he calls for using the Department’s full authority and budget to dismantle ideological indoctrination, set clear national standards, and restore a curriculum based on critical thinking.

President Trump said in February that the Dept. of Education would be abolished. Droz hopes that Trump can at least use its statutory authority and funding to give relief to American parents who are sending their children to what he called “indoctrination camps.”

Droz publishes his research and findings on Substack, “Critically Thinking about Select Societal Issues.” Droz previously testified before Congress several times in 2012 about necessary policy changes to reform American education.

Right now, Droz says, the nation’s schools are left-wing bastions that are teaching left-wing values, not skills or common sense academic standards. The current goals of American education, from his studies, are: “1) to be anti-American, 2) to substitute atheism for the Judeo-Christian standards of most of their parents, 3) to buy into Socialist and Marxist ideology, 4) to normalize hate, gender dysphoria, sexual perversion, drug use, etc. plus 5) to be non-thinking sheeple.”

From Independent Thought to Indoctrination

According to Droz, the education establishment has replaced teaching “how to think” with teaching “what to think,” and the “what” is controlled entirely by the Left. Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is now a fixture in teacher training and lesson plans nationwide. Droz calls SEL a Trojan horse for Marxist ideology, disguised as harmless self-help and empathy training.

Meanwhile, there is no meaningful plan in most states to teach critical thinking. “The current system rewards conformity, not inquiry,” Droz told The Gateway Pundit. “Whether it is history, science, or math, the ideology is baked in and the Right has completely abdicated.” Droz notes that one of the few states that outlines a state-level goal to pursue Critical Thinking, North Carolina, currently has no accompanying curriculum that teaches the concept to achieve the goal.

The NGSS Conformity Agenda

Droz points to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), adopted by 49 states, as an example of curriculum built to enforce mental compliance. Instead of teaching the scientific method, NGSS tells students to accept consensus views, defer to authority, and embrace politically-correct goals without asking questions.

“It is the opposite of science,” Droz said. “It is training children to be lemmings.”

As well, Droz notes, that when he questions education leadership around the country about how they accomplish these goals, they begrudgingly admit that it is all ultimately “up to the teachers.”

And surveys of teacher political attitudes show that they consider themselves to be far-left Democrats, with typical results 90% identifying as Democrats.

Proving Reform Works

Droz cites a network of 16 affordable, Christian-founded private schools in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia that explicitly commit to producing critical thinkers, the “Thales Academy.” https://www.thalesacademy.org/ Their approach uses traditional instruction, including the Socratic method, and they are so popular that their waiting list is currently two years for admission.

No State Meets the Standard

For Droz, the problem is national in scope. “No state in America is delivering a high-quality K–12 education product,” he said. “Maybe six states have a reasonable grasp of the problem. The rest are doing nothing effective.”

The result is a patchwork of weak policies and inconsistent standards and goals on issues as diverse as pornographic and violent books in school libraries, politically-slanted lesson plans, the purpose of education, and teacher training programs and requirements.

This results in an inconsistent patchwork of results for the nation’s 49.6 million students enrolled in K-12 government education every year, in the nation’s 98,500 government schools.

Eighty Billion Ways to Act

Droz says the Department of Education’s $80 billion annual discretionary budget alone could be used and channelled to set a national goal: replace “what to think” with “how to think.” Federal funding could be tied to states that adopt critical thinking curricula and reform teacher certification to remove ideological content.

“The most effective thing that could be done right now, since no state is providing high-quality K-12 education, is to provide clear, strong leadership to the nation and set a goal that American schools will empower our children with the skills to think critically,” Droz said.

“This one change could completely alter the direction of American education,” Droz says. “If Trump and McMahon lead on this, they could save our schools and save the country. This is an opportunity our country may never have again.”
